Water Treatment Chemicals

Chemicals for municipal, industrial and wastewater treatment.

Water Treatment chemicals at a glance

Water treatment relies on a small group of chemical functions: coagulants that destabilise suspended particles, oxidants and disinfectants that control microorganisms, iron, manganese and odour, alkalis and acids that correct pH, and adsorbents that remove dissolved organic compounds. Municipal drinking-water plants, industrial process-water systems and wastewater treatment works use different combinations of these, often at very different doses.

Our water-treatment range covers each of these functions — poly aluminium chloride, aluminium sulphate, ferric chloride and ferrous sulphate for coagulation, calcium and sodium hypochlorite for disinfection, potassium permanganate and hydrogen peroxide for oxidation, activated carbon for adsorption, and hydrated lime, soda ash and caustic soda for pH and alkalinity control.

Drinking-water applications normally require grades that meet a recognised standard such as AWWA, EN or NSF/ANSI/CAN 60. Tell us the standard your plant works to and your typical raw-water conditions, and we will confirm suitable grades and the supporting documentation.

Choosing between water-treatment chemicals

  • Coagulants: poly aluminium chloride works across a wide pH range and consumes less alkalinity; aluminium sulphate is an established, economical option; ferric chloride forms dense, fast-settling flocs and is widely used for phosphorus removal in wastewater.
  • Disinfection: calcium hypochlorite is a solid chlorine source that is compact to store and ship; sodium hypochlorite is a liquid that is simple to dose but gradually loses strength, especially in warm conditions.
  • Oxidation: potassium permanganate is used for iron, manganese, taste and odour control; hydrogen peroxide oxidises contaminants without forming chlorinated by-products.
  • pH and alkalinity: hydrated lime, soda ash and caustic soda raise pH and alkalinity; sulfuric and hydrochloric acid lower it.

Water Treatment FAQ

Which coagulant is best for my water?

It depends on raw-water turbidity, colour, alkalinity, temperature and how sludge is handled. Jar testing two or three candidate coagulants is the most reliable way to decide — we can quote the products you want to trial.

Can you supply drinking-water grade chemicals?

Drinking-water use requires grades that meet the applicable standard, for example AWWA, EN or NSF/ANSI/CAN 60. Share the standard you need and we will confirm availability and the documents that accompany the grade.

What should a water-treatment chemical inquiry include?

The product and form, required standard, concentration or assay, expected monthly volume, preferred packaging and the destination port. For coagulants, typical raw-water conditions also help.
